The 5 causes of eSIM with no internet (in order)

Applies to eSIMs from any provider — VoaSim, Airalo, Holafly, Nomad, Saily and others. In more than 8 out of 10 cases, the problem is #1 or #2.

1. Data roaming turned off on the eSIM line

The #1 cause in the world. A travel eSIM only works with its own data roaming turned on.

  • iPhone: Settings → Cellular → (eSIM line) → Data Roaming on
  • Xiaomi / POCO / Redmi: SIM cards & mobile networks → Data roaming → International roaming set to "Always"
  • Samsung: Connections → Mobile networks → Data roaming on
  • Motorola / Pixel: Network & internet → SIMs → (eSIM) → Roaming on

2. Wrong SIM selected for mobile data

The eSIM line must be the one selected under Mobile Data. Your home line stays only for SMS — with its roaming off, so you don't get a scary bill.

3. eSIM line turned off

The "Turn On This Line" switch (iPhone) or "Enable eSIM" (Android) must be on in the SIM settings.

4. The network hasn't "latched" yet

  1. Airplane mode for 10 seconds, then off
  2. Restart the phone
  3. If it persists: manual network selection, choosing a local carrier

5. APN (rare)

You almost never need to touch it. If none of the above worked, check the APN indicated by your eSIM provider — or send a screenshot here in the tool and we'll check it together.

Still at home and it says "no service"?

That's normal and not a defect: most travel eSIMs only connect in the destination country. Installing doesn't use up the plan — with most providers, the days start counting when you connect at the destination with roaming on. And one golden warning: never delete the eSIM from the phone, because the QR code can usually only be installed once.
