eSIM "no service": what to do

Direct answer"No service" on an eSIM has two meanings: at home, it’s normal (a travel eSIM only connects at the destination); at the destination, the network didn’t register — fixed with airplane mode for 10 seconds, a restart or manual network selection, with data roaming turned on.

Still at home? "No service" is normal

Most travel eSIMs only connect in the destination country. At home it shows "no service" and that is not a defect. Installing it doesn't use up the plan: the days usually start counting when you connect at the destination with roaming turned on.

Already at the destination? Do this in order

  1. Data roaming on for the eSIM line
  2. Airplane mode 10 seconds → off
  3. Restart the phone
  4. Manual network selection: turn off "automatic" and pick a local carrier from the list (try more than one)
  5. Check that the eSIM line is turned on in settings

Got signal but nothing loads?

Then the symptom changed: now it’s roaming or the data SIM. Go to eSIM installed but no internet.

⚠️ Never delete the eSIM from your phone. With most providers the QR code installs only once: deleting the line can mean losing the plan. Removing the eSIM is a last resort, and only with guidance from the support team of whoever sold it to you.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the eSIM take to connect after landing?
Usually 1 to 5 minutes after leaving airplane mode. In very busy airports it can take a bit longer — airplane mode for 10 s usually speeds it up.
I changed countries and it dropped to "no service". Now what?
If the plan covers the new country, force the network: airplane mode, restart and manual selection. If it doesn’t, it’s a coverage limit of the plan — check with your provider.
