Landed and the internet didn’t connect? Breathe.

Direct answerJust landed and no internet? Breathe: 1) turn off airplane mode and wait up to 5 minutes — network registration isn’t instant; 2) check data roaming is on for the eSIM line and that it’s the data SIM; 3) airplane mode 10 seconds again; 4) restart; 5) manual network selection. Most people connect at step 1 or 2.

The landing ritual (in this order)

  1. Turn off airplane mode and wait up to 5 min — a crowded airport delays registration
  2. Data roaming on for the eSIM line (iPhone: Settings → Cellular → eSIM → Data Roaming; Android: roaming on the eSIM line)
  3. eSIM as the data SIM (not your home line)
  4. Airplane mode 10 seconds → off
  5. Restart the phone
  6. Manual network selection: pick a local carrier (try more than one)

Use the airport Wi-Fi to your advantage

On Wi-Fi, you can reach your provider’s support or use our free AI tool — send a screenshot of your settings screen and it pinpoints what’s missing in your case.

⚠️ Never delete the eSIM from your phone. With most providers the QR code installs only once: deleting the line can mean losing the plan. Removing the eSIM is a last resort, and only with guidance from the support team of whoever sold it to you.

Frequently asked questions

How long is normal for the first connection?
From a few seconds up to 5 minutes. Beyond that, move to the checklist: roaming, data SIM, airplane mode, restart, manual network.
Should I buy a physical SIM at the airport if it won’t connect?
Almost never needed: more than 8 out of 10 cases are roaming or data-SIM settings, fixed in minutes. Try the checklist (or the tool) before spending.
