Check if your phone has eSIM
Android makes eSIM easy, but the menus have different names on Samsung, Pixel and Motorola. The install itself takes about two minutes. The part travelers get wrong is what happens after the install.

Does your Android phone support eSIM?
The fastest universal check: open the dialer and type *#06#. If an EID number appears next to the IMEI, your phone has eSIM hardware.
As a rule, eSIM works on Samsung Galaxy S20 or newer, Google Pixel 3 or newer, and most phones released from 2020 on. Two extra conditions matter:
- The phone must be carrier-unlocked. A locked handset will refuse a foreign profile even if the EID shows.
- Some regional variants of the same model ship without eSIM, so trust the *#06# result, not the spec sheet you found online.

How to install a VoaSim eSIM on Android, step by step
Your QR code arrives by email within minutes of payment. Do this at home, on Wi-Fi, before the flight.
- Open Settings → Connections or Network & internet.
- Tap SIM manager / SIMs → Add eSIM or Download a SIM instead.
- Scan the QR code from the email (open it on a laptop or print it — you cannot scan a code that is on the same screen).
- Confirm the download and wait for the profile to install.
- Rename the line something obvious, like "VoaSim Travel".
- Turn the new line OFF and leave its mobile data off until you land.

The one mistake: activating the eSIM before you travel
VoaSim validity starts at the first connection to a network at the destination — not at purchase. Android is where this goes wrong, because the install screen often ends with the line already enabled and data switched on.
If the profile connects to any network while you are still at home, the clock can start early and you lose days you paid for.
Safe routine:
- Install at home, then toggle the VoaSim line off in SIM manager.
- Do not enable mobile data for that line before departure.
- Land, turn airplane mode off, enable the VoaSim line, and set it as the data SIM.
- Leave your home SIM enabled for calls and SMS, with roaming data disabled.
If you only realize this mid-flight, no problem — the profile is already downloaded and you never need a QR code again.
Landed and no signal? Run these checks in order
Most Android "eSIM not working" cases are one setting away from fixed. Work through this list before contacting anyone:
- Airplane mode on for 15 seconds, then off.
- SIM manager: is the VoaSim line enabled?
- Mobile data: is it assigned to the VoaSim line, not your home SIM?
- Data roaming ON for the VoaSim line (this is required — a travel eSIM always roams on partner networks).
- Network selection: set to Automatic, then try a manual search and pick a local operator.
- Check the APN if your phone asks for one; leave it as delivered unless support says otherwise.
- Restart the phone.
