Others bury a fair-use paragraph in the terms. For a trip to Cancún, Mexico City or the Riviera Maya, that difference decides whether you can stream, upload video and hotspot-free browse all day without counting megabytes.

How to read the terms of any "unlimited" eSIM

Before you buy from anyone — us included — open the terms page and search for four things:

• Fair use / FUP: a daily or total volume after which the plan stops being unlimited in practice.
• Throttling: wording like "reduced speed" or "up to 512 kbps after X GB". That is enough for WhatsApp text and painful for maps and video.
• Tethering: many unlimited plans restrict or forbid hotspot. Holafly, for example, describes tethering conditions in its terms. On VoaSim, do not assume hotspot works — ask support first.
• Validity start: some plans start counting at purchase, others at first connection.

Unlimited eSIM vs carrier roaming vs local SIM in Mexico

Three realistic ways to get online in Mexico, and each wins for someone.

US carriers like T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon and Google Fi have Mexico-friendly options, and if your plan already bundles Mexico at no extra cost, use it — that is the cheapest choice. Install before you fly: the 5-minute routine

Check compatibility first: iPhone XR or newer, Samsung Galaxy S20 or newer, Google Pixel 3 or newer, and most phones released from 2020 on. Universal test: dial *#06# — if an EID appears, your phone has eSIM. Carrier-locked phones must be unlocked. We do not sell physical SIM cards.

Who should pick unlimited for Mexico — and who should not

Pick unlimited if you work remotely from Mexico City or Tulum, stream on long bus rides, post video daily, travel with kids watching cartoons in the car, or simply do not want to think about megabytes. A 15-day trip at USD 42.90 is USD 2.86/day for everything you can use.

Consider a GB package instead if your trip is a short resort stay with hotel Wi-Fi, you mostly use messaging, or you need reliable hotspot for a laptop — we do not promise tethering, and that is a real reason to choose another brand.
