Error "unable to add eSIM"

This error when scanning the QR has 4 typical causes, in order of frequency: QR already used (it installs only once), carrier-locked phone, unstable connection during the download, or a phone without eSIM support. Here's how to identify each:

1. The QR was already used

Cause #1. Each QR installs the profile exactly once — if an earlier attempt got halfway, the server may consider it consumed. The way out isn't rescanning 10 times: it's asking the provider for a reissue. (VoaSim customers: hola@voasim.com or the eSIM Rescue tool, 24h.)

2. Carrier-locked phone

A phone bought on an installment plan from a carrier may be locked to other lines. Check it: iPhone under Settings → General → About → "Carrier Lock" (should say "No SIM restrictions"). If locked, request the unlock from your carrier.

3. Unstable connection during installation

Installation downloads the profile from the internet. On weak Wi-Fi it cuts out halfway. Connect to stable Wi-Fi, restart the phone and try again — or install manually with the SM-DP+ code (it comes with the QR): guide at QR code not working.

4. The phone isn't compatible

Models sold in mainland China ship without eSIM even when the global version has it. Check: if your SIM settings have no "Add eSIM" option, there's no support. In that case the provider should refund you (VoaSim does).

At VoaSim, compatibility is checked BEFORE you pay. See your price:

Frequently asked questions

Does rescanning multiple times make it worse?
It can consume the QR for good and muddies the diagnosis. Two attempts on good Wi-Fi are enough; after that, manual install or support.
Is "eSIM already added" the same thing?
That message means the profile is ALREADY on the phone: look for the line in your SIM settings (it may be disabled) instead of installing again.
