What is an eSIM and how does it work?
An eSIM is a digital SIM: it does the same thing as your phone's physical SIM, but installs by scanning a QR code — no tray to open, no SIM to remove. That's why it became THE way to get internet while traveling.

Does my phone support eSIM?
iPhone XS/XR onwards (2018+), Samsung Galaxy S20 onwards plus Z Flip/Fold, Google Pixel 3 onwards, Xiaomi 12 onwards, recent Motorola Edge and Razr. Quick rule: if your SIM settings show "Add eSIM" or "Download SIM", you have it. The phone also has to be unlocked (not carrier-locked).

Does the eSIM replace my regular SIM?
No: they coexist. Your SIM stays for SMS/calls (with roaming off) and the eSIM provides the internet on the trip.
Do I need internet to install it?
Yes, Wi-Fi or data: installation downloads the profile. That's why you install it at home, before boarding.
Does the eSIM have a phone number?
Travel eSIMs are usually data-only, with no number. You don't need one: WhatsApp stays on your usual number.
