When a local SIM or a small GB plan is the better pick

We would rather you buy the right thing than the wrong thing from us.

• Very light use. If you only check messages on hotel and cafe Wi-Fi and use maybe a few hundred MB in a week, a small by-GB package will cost you less than a daily unlimited plan.
• Very long stays. Beyond 90 days, our eSIM does not apply — that is the per-eSIM limit. A UK pay-as-you-go SIM or a local contract makes more sense, and it gives you a British phone number for bookings and deliveries.
• You need a phone number. Our eSIM is data only: no number, no traditional voice calls. WhatsApp, FaceTime, Telegram and maps all work over data, and your own number stays on your physical SIM.
• Hotspot is essential. Do not assume tethering. It depends on the plan, so confirm with support before you rely on it for a laptop.

Note that a local SIM means finding a shop, sometimes ID registration, and swapping your SIM out of the phone.

What about your carrier's roaming pass?

US, Canadian and Australian carriers all sell some form of international roaming: daily passes, bundled allowances, or plans that include the UK. They are convenient because nothing changes on your phone, and for a two-night trip a daily pass can be perfectly reasonable.

The catch is the structure. Those passes typically charge per day of use, include a daily data allowance and slow down after it, and often need to be switched on before you leave.
