Coverage in Cairo, the Nile and the Red Sea

Egyptian networks are concentrated where people live and where tourists go, which covers almost every itinerary.

• Cairo and Giza: solid 4G, including around the pyramids and the main museums. Expect slowdowns in dense crowds at peak hours.
• Luxor and Aswan: 4G in town and at the major archaeological sites on both banks.
• Nile cruises: the signal follows the riverbank for most of the route. Between towns and inside some temple interiors it can drop. Download your itinerary and maps beforehand.
• Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada: good coverage in the resort areas.
• Desert and oases (White Desert, Siwa): patchy. Treat any connection there as a bonus.

Install before you fly: the exact steps

The QR code arrives by email within minutes of payment (plus a WhatsApp heads-up if you left a number at checkout). Install it at home, on Wi-Fi, never at Cairo airport with a queue behind you.

1. Check compatibility: dial *#06#. If an EID number appears, your phone supports eSIM. iPhone XR or newer, Galaxy S20 or newer, Pixel 3 or newer and most phones from 2020 on qualify. The phone must be carrier-unlocked.
