Trips of 1 to 4 days pay the 5-day package. Maximum is 90 days per eSIM. A second eSIM in the same order gets 10% extra off — useful for couples. Which networks you get in Colombia
VoaSim does not run its own towers anywhere. In Colombia the eSIM connects automatically to local partner networks — Claro, Movistar and Tigo — and picks the best available signal. You do not choose the operator manually and you do not need to register anything with your passport.
What that means in practice:
- Bogotá, Medellín, Cali, Cartagena: strong urban coverage on 4G and, on compatible phones and areas, 5G where the local network offers it.
- San Andrés: signal is good in the urban part of the island; expect weaker spots on remote beaches and cays.
- Coffee region, Santa Marta, Tayrona edges: fine in towns, patchy on trails and inside the park.
- Long bus rides (Bogotá–Medellín, Medellín–Cartagena): coverage comes and goes in the mountains. Download offline maps first.

When a local SIM or carrier roaming is the better call
We would rather be useful than sell you the wrong thing.
- Staying months in Colombia. Our eSIM maxes out at 90 days. For a semester in Medellín, a local Claro, Movistar or Tigo plan bought at a shop is the sensible option. Bring your passport — registration is required.
- You barely use data. If you connect only to check messages at the hotel, a small by-GB eSIM or even Wi-Fi alone may be enough.
- Your carrier bundles international data. Plans like T-Mobile's international options, AT&T International Day Pass, Verizon TravelPass or Google Fi may already include Colombia. Rates and speed caps change by plan and country, so open your carrier app and check the current terms before you fly. See our roaming notes for what to look for.
- You need a Colombian phone number for a local delivery app or bank SMS. Our eSIM is data-only, so a local SIM wins there.
Install before you fly: the 5-minute routine
Buy at home, not at El Dorado airport with 8% battery.
- Check compatibility: dial *#06#. If an EID appears, your phone supports eSIM. iPhone XR or newer, Galaxy S20 or newer, Pixel 3 or newer and most phones from 2020 on qualify. Carrier-locked phones must be unlocked first.
- Order on the simulator. The QR code arrives by email within minutes, with a WhatsApp heads-up if you left a number.
- Scan the QR at home over Wi-Fi and install the line. Label it "VoaSim".
- Keep the eSIM line switched off until you land. On Android, do not turn on the eSIM's data before the trip. Your days start counting at the first connection to a network in Colombia.
- On landing, turn the VoaSim line on, set it as data line, and turn off data roaming on your home carrier.

If something goes wrong in Bogotá
Most no-signal cases are settings, not the eSIM. The usual fixes: make sure the VoaSim line is set as the mobile data line, enable data roaming on the VoaSim line only, toggle airplane mode, or select a network manually (Claro, Movistar or Tigo) in network settings.
