Unlimited vs per-GB eSIMs: which fits your trip

There are two families of travel eSIM, and neither is universally better.

Per-GB brands — Airalo, Nomad, Saily, Ubigi, Alosim, Jetpac and others — sell a data bucket (say, a France or Europe pack) valid for a set number of days, usually through their own app. They are efficient if you barely use mobile data: hotel Wi-Fi at night, maps in the morning, a couple of messages. Check the cap, the validity window and the tethering rules in each brand's own terms before buying.

When a local SIM or carrier roaming is the better pick

A travel eSIM is not always the answer, and pretending otherwise would be dishonest.

• You need a French phone number. Some bank verifications, classifieds and local services want a local number. A French physical SIM gives you one; VoaSim does not — it is data only, and VoaSim does not sell physical SIM cards.
