The longer the trip, the cheaper each day gets. A 10-day Bangkok–Chiang Mai loop costs USD 30.90 total. A month across the islands works out to USD 2.06 a day — less than a coffee at Sukhumvit. The cap trap: why cheap GB plans get expensive in Thailand
By-GB eSIMs (Airalo, Nomad, Ubigi, Saily and others sell this way) start cheap because the allowance is small. Thailand is exactly the trip that eats allowances:
- Maps. Bangkok on foot plus Grab and BTS navigation runs live GPS for hours a day.
- Photos and reels. Uploading Phi Phi footage over 4G burns more than most people budget for.
- Video calls home. The time gap means long calls at odd hours, usually from a beach in Krabi with no Wi-Fi.
- Streaming on night buses and ferries. Nothing kills a 3 GB plan faster.
When the GB run out you either buy a top-up at full price or crawl on throttled speeds. The "cheap" plan stops being cheap the moment you add the second package. Coverage in Thailand: Bangkok, the islands and the boat rides

Does your phone work, and how the days are counted
Compatibility is simple: iPhone XR or newer, Samsung Galaxy S20 or newer, Google Pixel 3 or newer, and most phones launched from 2020 on. Universal check: dial *#06# — if an EID number appears, your phone supports eSIM. Carrier-locked phones must be unlocked first. We do not sell physical SIM cards.
Your validity does not start at purchase. The countdown begins the first time the eSIM connects to a network in Thailand. So install at home, days before the flight, and leave the eSIM line switched off until the plane doors open at Suvarnabhumi. On Android, make sure you do not enable the eSIM's mobile data before the trip.
