Here is the exact order to do it, what to check if the signal does not appear, and how the validity days work so you do not waste one.
The 4 steps, in order
Do them in this sequence. Skipping the roaming toggle is the single most common reason people think an eSIM is broken.
- Turn off airplane mode once you are in the terminal. Give the phone 30 seconds to scan for networks.
- Turn on the VoaSim eSIM line. iPhone: Settings > Cellular > tap the VoaSim line > Turn On This Line. Android: Settings > Network & internet > SIMs > select the eSIM > enable it.
- Set it as your data line and enable data roaming for that line. Travel eSIMs connect to partner networks, so roaming must be on for the eSIM itself. This does not cost you anything extra.
- Turn off data roaming on your physical SIM. Your number and WhatsApp keep working over the eSIM's data; you just stop your home carrier from billing you.

When do the days start counting?
Your VoaSim validity starts at the eSIM's first connection to a network at the destination, not at purchase and not at install. That is why we tell you to install at home and leave the eSIM line switched off until the wheels touch down.
On Android, be extra careful: do not enable the eSIM's mobile data before the trip, because the line can register on a network and start the clock early.
Trips of 1 to 4 days use the 5-day package. Maximum validity is 90 days per eSIM.

No signal after landing? Run these checks
Work through them in order. Most cases are fixed in the first three.
- Is the eSIM line actually on? A grayed-out line shows no bars. Toggle it on.
- Is data roaming enabled for the eSIM line? Check the line's own settings, not the phone's global setting.
- Is the eSIM selected for mobile data? The phone may still be pointing at your physical SIM.
- Restart the phone. After a long flight, a reboot forces a fresh network scan.
- Airplane mode on for 15 seconds, then off. Same effect, faster.
- Try manual network selection. Turn off automatic selection and pick a local operator from the list; if one fails, try the next.
- Move away from the jet bridge. Underground arrival halls and baggage areas can be dead zones.

What works over data (and what does not)
