Can you reuse a travel eSIM on a second trip?

Straight answer: A VoaSim eSIM is one plan for one duration. If days are left, you can keep using it on a second trip. Once the days run out, the plan is finished and you buy a new eSIM — from USD 18.90 for 5 days up to USD 106.90 for 60 days. Days start at your first connection abroad, and one eSIM covers up to 90 days.

Key facts

  • A VoaSim eSIM can be reused on a second trip as long as plan days remain and you are within 90 days of the first connection.
  • Plan days start at the first connection abroad and keep running at home — they do not pause between trips.
  • When the days end, you buy a new eSIM: from USD 18.90 for 5 days to USD 106.90 for 60 days (USD 1.78/day).
  • Do not delete the profile while days remain; deleting an eSIM is normally permanent.
  • If an old eSIM shows no signal, run the roaming checks then use the free eSIM Rescue tool at voasim.com/sos.

"Reuse eSIM" usually means one of two things: using leftover days on another trip, or firing up an old profile months later. The answer depends on whether your plan still has time on the clock.

Here is how it works with VoaSim, in plain terms, plus what to do when the days are gone.

How VoaSim plan days actually work

Each VoaSim eSIM is sold by duration, not by gigabytes. The data is truly unlimited: no cap, no throttling, no hidden fair-use clause. What is limited is time.

The countdown starts the moment the eSIM first connects to a network at your destination — not when you buy it, and not when you install it. That is why we tell people to install at home and keep the eSIM line switched off until the plane lands.

So if you buy 30 days and come home on day 12, you still have 18 days sitting there. Travel again inside that window and the same eSIM connects again, in any of the 170 destinations we cover, without buying anything new. The maximum life of a single eSIM is 90 days.

Once the last day expires, the plan is finished. There is nothing left to reuse — the profile stays on your phone but it will not connect. At that point you buy a new eSIM and install a new QR code. Check the price for your next dates.

When you CAN reuse the same eSIM

Short checklist. You can keep using the eSIM you already have if:

One exception worth knowing: island Caribbean destinations (Dominican Republic, Cuba, Jamaica, Bahamas, Aruba, Curaçao) are not covered right now. Puerto Rico works, because it runs on US networks. And on a cruise, the eSIM works on land in port, not at sea.

If your remaining days are fewer than the trip, buy a fresh plan for the full trip rather than stacking. See the destination pages to confirm coverage first.

When you need a brand-new eSIM

You need a new eSIM when the days are used up, when the 90-day limit is reached, or when you deleted the profile from your phone. Deleting an eSIM profile is normally permanent — if you are unsure, write to hola@voasim.com before you remove anything.

A new eSIM means a new QR code, delivered by email within minutes of payment, plus a step-by-step guide for iPhone and Android. Install it at home, before the flight.

Prices are the same for every destination:

DurationPricePer day
5 daysUSD 18.90USD 3.78
7 daysUSD 23.90USD 3.41
10 daysUSD 30.90USD 3.09
15 daysUSD 42.90USD 2.86
30 daysUSD 61.90USD 2.06
60 daysUSD 106.90USD 1.78

Trips of 1 to 4 days pay the 5-day package. A second eSIM in the same order gets 10% extra off.

Old eSIM will not connect: run these checks in order

Before assuming the plan is dead, work through this list at the destination:

  1. Turn off data roaming on your home carrier line so the phone stops fighting for the connection. Your physical SIM and your number keep working for WhatsApp and SMS.
  2. Set the VoaSim line as the mobile data line in your phone settings.
  3. Switch data roaming ON for the VoaSim line — it needs roaming enabled to reach local networks.
  4. Toggle airplane mode for 30 seconds, then restart the phone.
  5. Search networks manually if nothing appears automatically.
  6. Check remaining days. If the plan expired, no setting will bring it back.

Still nothing? Use the free eSIM Rescue tool — it diagnoses an eSIM of any brand with no signal, not just ours. Human support is on chat and email. If the eSIM will not connect and we cannot fix it, you get a 100% refund.

Reusing eSIMs from other brands

Rules differ by brand, so read the terms you bought under. Airalo sells data packages by GB, local, regional or global, through its app — reuse there generally depends on leftover GB and the package validity date. Holafly sells "unlimited" plans with usage conditions and tethering limits set out in its terms. Nomad, Saily, Ubigi, Maya Mobile, Yesim, GigSky, Alosim, Jetpac and others sell by GB or by day, again via app.

Two questions decide everything: is there data left, and has the validity date passed? A package with GB remaining but an expired window cannot be reused. Check the current status in the brand's own app or site — that is the only reliable source.

Carrier roaming (T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon, EE, Vodafone, Three, Telstra, Rogers, Google Fi and others) works differently again: it is billed per day of use or bundled with your plan, so there is nothing to "reuse" — it simply charges you again. Compare the approaches on our roaming page.

FAQ

Can I reuse a VoaSim eSIM on a second trip?
Yes, if days remain on the plan and you are inside the 90-day window since the first connection. The same eSIM works in any covered destination, so a leftover 30-day plan can be used in a different country on your next trip without buying anything new.
Do leftover days expire?
Days run continuously once the eSIM first connects at the destination, including days you spend at home. They do not pause. The eSIM also has a hard limit of 90 days from that first connection, whichever comes first.
Can I add more days to an expired eSIM?
When the plan ends, you buy a new eSIM and install the new QR code that arrives by email within minutes. Prices start at USD 18.90 for 5 days and go to USD 106.90 for 60 days, the same for every destination we cover.
If I delete the eSIM profile, can I reinstall it?
Deleting an eSIM profile is normally permanent, so do not remove it while days are left. If you think you may travel again soon, keep the profile installed and simply leave the line switched off. Ask support at hola@voasim.com before deleting anything.
My old eSIM shows no signal. What should I check first?
Turn off data roaming on your home carrier line, set the VoaSim line as mobile data, turn roaming ON for that line, toggle airplane mode and restart. If it still fails, use the free eSIM Rescue tool at voasim.com/sos, which works with any brand.
Does my phone number keep working while I use the eSIM?
Yes. Your physical SIM and number stay in the phone, so WhatsApp stays on your number. The VoaSim eSIM is data only — no phone number and no traditional voice calls. Calls through WhatsApp or other apps work over data.
Can I buy two eSIMs at once for two travelers?
Yes. A second eSIM in the same order gets 10% extra off. Each eSIM has its own days and its own QR code, and each starts counting at its own first connection at the destination.
