"Unlimited" is the most abused word in the travel eSIM business. Some plans give you unlimited gigabytes at full speed. Others give you a few gigabytes at full speed, then slow you to a crawl and still call it unlimited, with the details buried in a fair-use paragraph.

What "truly unlimited" means on a VoaSim eSIM

How to read the fine print in any "unlimited" plan

Before you buy from any brand, open the terms page and look for four things. It takes two minutes and it is the only reliable test.

1. A speed threshold. Wording like "after X GB per day, speed may be reduced" means the plan is capped in practice, not unlimited.
2. A fair-use clause. Some brands reserve the right to limit heavy users. Check whether a number is attached to it.
3. Tethering rules. Several unlimited plans restrict or cap hotspot use. VoaSim does not promise tethering either — if you need it, ask support before you rely on it.
4. When validity starts. Some plans start counting at purchase, others at first connection.

Coverage in Greece: Athens, the islands and ferries

Key rule: the days start counting at the first connection to a network in Greece, not at purchase. So install the profile early but keep the eSIM line switched off until you land in Athens or on the island. On Android, do not turn on the eSIM's mobile data before the trip.

When you land: turn the eSIM line on, set it as the data line, and turn off data roaming on your home carrier so it cannot bill you. Your number stays active for SMS codes.

When another option may suit you better

Unlimited is not automatically the right call. Be honest about your usage.

• Light user on a 4-day city break: if you only need maps and messaging, a small gigabyte package from a by-GB brand may cost less than USD 18.90. Buy unlimited when you want to stop counting.
• You need a Greek phone number: VoaSim is data only. A local physical SIM from a Greek shop gives you a number, but it means passport registration, airport time and taking your own SIM out.
