Others hide a fair-use clause three clicks deep in the terms. For a trip to Australia, where you will be streaming maps along the Great Ocean Road and uploading video from Cairns, that difference is the whole trip.

What "truly unlimited" means on a VoaSim eSIM

Two honest limits you should know anyway:
- It is data only. There is no Australian phone number and no traditional voice line. WhatsApp, FaceTime, Telegram calls and maps all run over data, on your own number, because your physical SIM stays in the phone.
- Hotspot is not promised. It depends on the plan, so if you need to tether a laptop in Sydney, ask support before you rely on it.
Speed depends on the local network you land on, not on an artificial brake set by us. Where 5G is available you get 5G; elsewhere, 4G.

Australia eSIM prices: one price per duration
There is one price per duration and it is the same for every destination we cover, Australia included. No zones, no per-GB math, no surprise top-ups mid-trip. Today's table already includes the 15% promo.

Trips of 1 to 4 days pay the 5-day package. The maximum is 90 days per eSIM. A second eSIM in the same order gets 10% extra off, which is the cheapest way to cover a travel partner. Payment is by international credit or debit card in USD through Stripe, with an invoice by email.
Coverage in Australia: cities, coast and Outback
The eSIM connects automatically to Australian networks — Telstra, Optus and Vodafone — and picks the one available where you are. You do not choose or configure anything.
- Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and the capitals: 5G in many areas, solid 4G everywhere else.
- The whole east coast: reliable 4G from the Gold Coast up to Cairns, including the tourist corridors around Byron Bay and the Whitsundays.
- Deep Outback and remote national parks: coverage is thin for every carrier, local or foreign. Download offline maps before you leave the bitumen.
- Cruises and boat trips: the eSIM works on land, in port. It does not work at sea.

How to check if another brand's "unlimited" is real
Being fair: several eSIM brands do a good job, and some may fit you better. Airalo sells packages by GB through its app, which is fine if you are a light user on a short trip. Nomad, Saily, Ubigi, Yesim, GigSky and others sell by GB or by day. Holafly sells "unlimited" plans with usage conditions and tethering limits set out in its terms.
Before you buy anything, open the terms and search for four words:
- Fair use — is there a daily or total threshold?
- Throttle / reduced speed — what happens after that threshold?
- Tethering / hotspot — allowed, capped or blocked?
- Validity — do the days start at purchase or at first connection?

Unlimited eSIM vs carrier roaming vs local SIM
Carrier roaming (T-Mobile's international plans, AT&T International Day Pass, Verizon TravelPass, EE, Vodafone, Three, Telstra and others) is the least effort: you keep your number and data, usually with a daily allowance and slower speeds after it. Rates change by country and plan, so check the current Australia rate in your carrier app before deciding. For a two-day layover it can be the right call.

Install before you fly, activate when you land
The QR code arrives by email within minutes of payment (plus a WhatsApp heads-up if you left a number). Install it at home, on Wi-Fi, while you still have someone to ask.
The days only start counting at the eSIM's first connection to a network in Australia. So install the profile but keep the eSIM line switched off until you land in Sydney or Melbourne — on Android, do not turn on the eSIM's data before the trip. Then turn off data roaming on your home carrier so nothing bills you by accident.
