A German local SIM can make sense for stays of several months, or if you need a German phone number for deliveries, banking or local services. The trade-off is real: you need a shop, ID registration, time you could spend traveling, and your own SIM leaves the phone.
Carrier roaming — T-Mobile international plans, AT&T International Day Pass, Verizon TravelPass, EE, Vodafone, Three, Rogers, Google Fi and others — is convenient for very short hops because nothing changes on your phone. It is billed per day of use or bundled, often with a daily allowance and reduced speeds afterwards, and it usually has to be enabled before you fly. Before you fly: compatibility and installation
Check the phone first. eSIM works on iPhone XR or newer, Samsung Galaxy S20 or newer, Google Pixel 3 or newer and most phones released from 2020 on. The universal test: dial *#06# — if an EID appears, your phone supports eSIM. Carrier-locked phones must be unlocked first. VoaSim does not sell physical SIM cards.
