When a local SIM or carrier roaming is the better pick

Being fair about it: an eSIM is not always the answer.

• Very long stays. If you are in Bali for months on a visa extension, a local Indonesian prepaid SIM bought in a shop can be cheaper over time. Expect passport registration, a store visit, and swapping out your physical SIM — which means your home number leaves the phone.
