Internet for the UK and mainland Europe: one eSIM or several?

How much it costs for a UK + France trip

Land borders inside the Europe plan are invisible to your phone. Install before you fly, start the clock on arrival

The QR code arrives by email within minutes of payment (plus a WhatsApp heads-up if you left a number). Install it at home, on your own Wi-Fi, while you still have someone to ask.

1. Scan the QR code and add the eSIM line to your phone.
2. Leave that line off until you land. On Android, do not switch on the eSIM's mobile data before the trip.
3. At Heathrow, Gatwick or Charles de Gaulle, turn the eSIM line on and set it as your data line.
4. Turn off data roaming on your home carrier so nothing bills you by accident.

Validity starts at the first connection to a network at the destination, not at purchase. Your physical SIM and your phone number stay in the phone, so WhatsApp keeps running on your usual number. When several eSIMs (or another brand) make more sense

Honest version: one eSIM is not always the answer.

• Your route leaves Europe. A London–Istanbul–Dubai trip needs the right product for each region. Enter every country in the simulator and VoaSim issues what fits.
• You barely use data. If you check maps twice a day and live on hotel Wi-Fi, a small GB package from a brand like Airalo, Nomad or Ubigi may cost less. Check the cap and the expiry date in their app.
• You need a local phone number for SMS codes from a UK bank or a French delivery app. No travel eSIM gives you that; a local physical SIM does, usually with passport registration and a shop visit.
• You plan to tether a laptop all day. Hotspot depends on the plan — ask VoaSim support before you rely on it, and read the tethering clause in any competitor's terms too.

Check your phone before you buy

eSIM only works on unlocked, eSIM-capable phones. The quick test: dial *#06#. If an EID number appears, your phone supports eSIM.

As a rule of thumb, you are fine with an iPhone XR or newer, a Samsung Galaxy S20 or newer, a Google Pixel 3 or newer, and most phones released from 2020 on. A carrier-locked handset must be unlocked first — ask your operator before the trip, not at the airport. VoaSim does not sell physical SIM cards.
