How the Maya Mobile eSIM model works
Maya Mobile is one of several travel eSIM brands that sell mobile data as a digital product. The pattern is the same across the category: you pick a destination or region, pick a data amount and a validity window, pay online, and get a QR code (or an in-app install) that adds a data-only line to your phone.
Once installed, the eSIM connects to partner networks at your destination. Your physical SIM and your regular phone number stay in the phone, so WhatsApp keeps working on your number as long as you turn off your home carrier's data roaming.
The key variable in this model is the allowance. Plans sold by GB end when the GB run out, and you either top up or go offline. That is fine for light users. It is stressful if you stream, navigate all day, upload video or work from the road. Always read the brand's own terms for the current allowance, validity and any tethering rules.
What to check before buying any eSIM (Maya included)
- Data allowance: is it a fixed GB bucket, a daily allowance, or unlimited? If it says unlimited, look for a fair-use clause or a speed reduction after X GB.
- Validity: when does the clock start — at purchase, at install, or at first connection to a network abroad?

- Top-ups: can you extend mid-trip, and at what cost?
- Tethering: never assume hotspot is allowed. Confirm it in writing.

Today's prices already include a 15% promo. Trips of 1 to 4 days pay the 5-day package. A second eSIM in the same order gets 10% extra off. Maximum 90 days per eSIM. The lowest daily rate is USD 1.78/day on the 60-day plan.
Days start counting at the eSIM's first connection to a network at your destination, so you can install at home and keep the line switched off until you land.
When Maya (or another by-GB brand) is the better pick
Be honest with yourself about usage. If you travel for two days, mostly use hotel Wi-Fi and only need maps and messages, a small GB pack from Maya, another app-based brand or even your carrier's day pass can cost less than any unlimited plan. Same if you want a phone number with SMS — VoaSim does not provide one.
Maya and similar brands may also be the answer for destinations VoaSim does not cover yet. The island Caribbean — Dominican Republic, Cuba, Jamaica, Bahamas, Aruba, Curaçao — is outside our coverage today. Puerto Rico works, because it runs on US networks. Cruises are another edge case: our eSIM works on land at ports, not at sea.
If instead you stream, tether-free hotspot is not your main need, you work remotely or you simply hate watching a data counter, unlimited at a fixed price is the calmer choice.
Installing and troubleshooting, whatever brand you choose
