"Mobile network not available" abroad

You just landed and the phone sees no network at all. In 80% of cases it is one of the first two causes on this list — fixed in under 2 minutes.

The 6 causes, in order

  1. Data roaming off (the number one): turn it on for the eSIM line. Without it, the phone won't even try to register on foreign networks.
  2. The phone is still searching for your home network: airplane mode for 10 seconds, or restart. On waking, it scans local networks.
  3. A manual network from a previous country saved: if you ever picked a carrier by hand, the phone keeps looking for it. Switch back to "automatic selection".
  4. Wrong data line: data is going through your home SIM (with no roaming plan). Select the eSIM as the data line.
  5. Genuinely no coverage: in airport basements or rural areas there may be no signal from anyone. Move and retry.
  6. eSIM not yet active: if the plan required activation and it did not happen, the network rejects you. Check the status with your provider.

The quick sequence (2 minutes)

Roaming ON → eSIM as data line → airplane mode 10 s → wait 1 minute. Still the same: manual network selection, trying each local carrier. Nothing? eSIM Rescue guides you on the airport Wi-Fi.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't my phone find a network when I land?
The most common cause is data roaming turned off; the second, the phone still "stuck" searching for your home network — airplane mode or a restart fixes it.
Are "no service" and "network not available" the same thing?
In practice yes: the phone failed to register on any network. The causes and fixes are the same.
Should I pick the network manually?
Try automatic first. Manual selection is the next step: try the country's carriers one by one until one registers.
