The eSIM disappeared after an update
It is rare, but it happens: after a system update, the eSIM is gone or shows "no service". Before panicking — the plan is not lost. Here is how to recover it.
First: disappeared or just disabled?
- Go to Settings → Cellular (iPhone) or SIM manager (Android).
- If the line shows but is turned off: just turn it back on, select the eSIM as the data line and roaming ON. Case closed.
- If the line is not on the list: continue below.
If it is really gone
- Restart the phone: sometimes the profile reappears after the first full boot post-update.
- Check for a second pending update (minor patches often fix eSIM bugs).
- Do not scan the old QR yet: if the profile was truly deleted, most single-use QR codes no longer work and the attempt can burn the code.
- Write to your provider's support explaining an update wiped the profile: the normal outcome is a free reissue keeping your days.
Prevention for next time
Avoid updating the system mid-trip: do it before leaving or after coming back. And keep your eSIM e-mail (with QR and plan details) somewhere you can find without internet.

Frequently asked questions
Did the update delete my data plan?
No: the plan lives in the provider's system, not on the phone. Even if the profile is lost, support can reissue it with your days intact.
Can I rescan the same QR?
Only if your provider confirms it: many QR codes are single-use and a failed attempt can invalidate it. Write to support first.
Should I update my phone during a trip?
No. Update before leaving or after returning: post-update eSIM bugs are rare, but the worst place to hit one is mid-trip.
