Buy and install at the gate, over Pearson Wi-Fi
You need Wi-Fi to install an eSIM, and YYZ has it. The whole thing takes a few minutes at the gate:
- Connect to the airport Wi-Fi.
- Open the simulator, enter your destination and dates, and pay by card.
- The QR code lands in your email within minutes (plus a WhatsApp heads-up if you left a number at checkout).

- Leave the eSIM line off until you land. On Android, do not switch on the eSIM's mobile data before the trip.
That last step matters: your days start counting at the eSIM's first connection to a network at the destination, not at purchase. Installing early costs you nothing. Ideally do this at home the night before — the gate is the backup plan, not the plan.
What to do the moment you land
Wheels down, phone out of airplane mode, and three taps:
- Turn off data roaming on your home carrier line so it cannot quietly bill you.
