Is Nomad unlimited really unlimited? Daily high-speed cap, then slower
Key facts
- Nomad's Unlimited plans include a daily high-speed allowance and then drop to roughly 1 or 2 Mbps, and Nomad says they do not offer unrestricted high-speed data.
- VoaSim's travel eSIM has no daily cap, no throttling and no hidden fair use policy, across 170 destinations.
- VoaSim sets the price by destination and trip length, from USD 16.90 for 5 days down to USD 1.88 per day on the 60-day plan.
- Hotspot is not allowed on VoaSim, so each traveler needs their own eSIM; a second eSIM in the same order gets an extra 10% off.
- For light users who mostly need maps and messaging, a capped unlimited plan can be perfectly fine.

"Unlimited" means different things on different eSIM sites. With Nomad, the word covers plans that keep working all day but slow down once you pass a daily high-speed allowance. That is a fair deal for some trips and a problem for others.
Here is what Nomad publishes, what it means in practice, and how a plan with no daily cap compares. No competitor prices here: for live price comparisons we link the public VoaSim eSIM Price Index.
What Nomad actually publishes about its Unlimited plans
According to Nomad's own help center (nomadesim.com), its "Unlimited" plans include 2 GB per day of high-speed data on most plans. After that allowance is used, the connection continues but speed drops to about 1 or 2 Mbps until the next daily cycle starts.
Nomad states it plainly: those plans do not offer unrestricted high-speed data. That is honest wording, and it is the key line to read before you buy. The allowance can vary by package, so check the plan page for your destination inside the Nomad app or site before paying.
What that means on the ground: maps, messaging and email stay usable at the reduced speed. Long video calls, HD streaming, uploading a day of photos or working off a laptop can get painful once you are throttled, especially at night when networks are busy.
Capped vs uncapped: how to tell which one you need
The honest answer is that it depends on how you use data abroad. A daily allowance of a couple of gigabytes is plenty for many travelers.
- A capped plan is probably enough if you mostly use maps, WhatsApp, email, ride apps and light browsing, and you sleep in hotels with Wi-Fi.
- You want no cap if you stream, upload video, take video calls, work remotely, or travel with no reliable Wi-Fi.
One more variable: throttling is per day, so a single heavy morning can leave you slow until midnight. If your trip has long transit days or you back up photos to the cloud, that happens more often than people expect.

VoaSim: unlimited with no daily cap and no throttling
VoaSim sells one thing: a truly unlimited data eSIM. No data cap, no speed throttling, no hidden fair use clause. You connect automatically to local networks on 4G and, where available, 5G, across 170 destinations on every continent.
Other rules worth knowing before you buy:
- Data only. No phone number or traditional voice calls, but WhatsApp, app calls and maps work over data, and your own number stays on your physical SIM.
- Hotspot and tethering are not allowed. If you share the connection, the local carrier may block the line. Each traveler uses their own eSIM.
- Works on land, including cruise ports, but not at sea.
- No coverage right now in the island Caribbean. Puerto Rico works on US networks.
- The Europe plan covers 39 countries with one eSIM, including the UK, Switzerland, Turkey, Norway and Iceland.
VoaSim prices: set by destination and trip length
No per-country pricing games. You pick the number of days, and each destination (Japan, Portugal, Brazil) has its own price. Prices below include today's 15% promo.
| Duration | Price | Per day |
|---|---|---|
| 5 days | USD 16.90 | USD 3.38 |
| 7 days | USD 23.90 | USD 3.41 |
| 10 days | USD 30.90 | USD 3.09 |
| 15 days | USD 42.90 | USD 2.86 |
| 20 days | USD 51.90 | USD 2.60 |
| 25 days | USD 58.90 | USD 2.36 |
| 30 days | USD 62.90 | USD 2.10 |
| 60 days | USD 112.90 | USD 1.88 |
Trips of 1 to 4 days pay the 5-day package, and the maximum is 90 days per eSIM. Traveling with someone? A second eSIM in the same order gets an extra 10% off — and since hotspot is not allowed, that is how couples and families should buy. Check your exact price in the price simulator.
How to compare prices fairly between unlimited eSIMs
Comparing "unlimited" headlines is useless unless you separate plans with a daily high-speed cap from plans without one. That is exactly what the VoaSim eSIM Price Index does: a daily public comparison of unlimited eSIMs from VoaSim, Holafly, Airalo and Nomad, with the method and the data open, split into capped and uncapped.
For context, the published rules differ a lot. Airalo's unlimited plans run on a daily high-speed allowance by default and then slow down for the rest of the 24 hours, with tethering counting toward the same allowance. Holafly publishes no daily cap but says operators may reduce speed under fair use for up to a day, and limits hotspot. Nomad publishes its allowance and its post-cap speed. Each brand's terms are the source of truth, so read them on the official site before you buy.

Buying, installing and getting help
Checkout is by international credit or debit card in USD through Stripe, with no hidden fees and an invoice by email. The QR code arrives by email within minutes, with a WhatsApp heads-up if you left a number.
Install before you fly, then leave the eSIM line switched off until you land — on Android, do not turn on the eSIM's data before the trip. Your days only start counting at the first connection to a network at the destination. Keep your physical SIM active for your number and turn off your home carrier's data roaming.
Compatibility: iPhone XR or newer, Galaxy S20 or newer, Pixel 3 or newer, and most phones from 2020 on. Dial *#06# — if an EID appears, your phone supports eSIM. Carrier-locked phones must be unlocked. VoaSim does not sell physical SIM cards.
No signal, any brand? Use the free eSIM Rescue tool. If the eSIM will not connect and support cannot fix it, you get a 100% refund. More on that in how we work.
