How the aloSIM model works
aloSIM is one of several app-based eSIM brands that sell travel data in fixed GB packages. You pick a country, a region or a global plan, choose an allowance (for example a few GB), and the package comes with a validity window measured in days. You install a QR code or activate through the app, and when the GB run out or the days expire, you top up or buy again.
That model is simple and it is a good fit for some trips. If you mostly use hotel Wi-Fi, check maps offline and only need messaging and a few searches a day, a small package can be cheaper than anything unlimited.
The catch is estimating your own usage. Video calls with family, Instagram stories, Google Maps running for hours and music streaming burn GB faster than most people expect. Running out on day four of a ten-day trip means buying again, usually at a worse per-GB rate than the original bundle. Always read the validity and top-up rules in the app before you pay. What to check before you buy any eSIM by GB
Whatever brand you choose, these are the points that decide whether the plan works on the ground:
- Data allowance vs. your real usage. Count maps, video calls, uploads and streaming, not just messaging.
- Validity. Days usually start at first connection — confirm this, because some plans start at purchase.
- Coverage list. A "regional" plan does not always include every country on your route. Check Switzerland, the UK, Turkey, Norway and Iceland in particular.
- Tethering. Hotspot rules vary by brand and plan and are written in the terms, not on the sales page.
- Top-up rates. The price of the second purchase matters more than the first.
- Support. Is there a human to answer at 11pm in a foreign airport?

When aloSIM (or another by-GB brand) is the better pick
We would rather you buy the right thing than the wrong thing from us. A GB-based plan like aloSIM's is probably the smarter buy when:
- You are on a short business trip with Wi-Fi in the office and the hotel, and you need maybe 1 GB total.
- You want to island-hop the Caribbean — VoaSim currently has no coverage in the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Jamaica, the Bahamas, Aruba or Curaçao. Puerto Rico does work, because it runs on US networks.
- You need data at sea on a cruise. Our eSIM works on land at ports, not offshore.
- You want a phone number for SMS. VoaSim is data only — WhatsApp, app calls and maps work, but there is no local number or traditional voice line.

Setup, activation and what to do if there is no signal
With VoaSim the QR code arrives by email within minutes of payment (plus a WhatsApp heads-up if you left a number at checkout). Install before you fly, while you still have home Wi-Fi, and keep the eSIM line switched off until you land. On Android, do not turn on the eSIM's data before the trip — the validity clock starts at the first connection to a network at the destination.
Your physical SIM and your number stay in the phone, so WhatsApp keeps working on your usual number. Just turn off data roaming on your home carrier line so it cannot bill you.
