Sharing internet on a trip: hotspot without drama
One well-chosen eSIM can connect your laptop, your tablet and even your partner's phone. The catch: not every plan allows it. Here is the full guide.
First: does your plan allow hotspot?
"Unlimited" plans with fair use often limit or block hotspot (or cap it at 500 MB/day). Per-GB plans allow it but every shared MB counts against the package. Sharing your connection (hotspot or tethering) is not allowed: the local carrier may block your line. Each traveler uses their own eSIM, and 2 or more eSIMs get an extra 10% off.
How to turn it on
- iPhone: Settings → Personal Hotspot → "Allow Others to Join". If the option is missing, check the data line is the eSIM and restart.
- Android: Settings → Connections → Mobile Hotspot. Set a name and password.
