Is an unlimited eSIM worth it, or is a discounted fixed-data bundle the better holiday buy?
Key facts
- VoaSim's unlimited data plans run from USD 1.43 per day (Thailand, 30 days) to USD 4.84 per day (Brazil, 7 days), based on prices collected Nov 1, 2026.
- A 30-day VoaSim plan for the United States costs USD 55.90, which works out to USD 1.86 per day.
- In the VoaSim Index of 10-day unlimited plans for the United States on Nov 1, 2026, prices ranged from USD 29.90 (VoaSim) to USD 54.79 (America Chip).
- Holafly's 2025 Black Friday offer was 3 eSIMs for the price of 2, valid Nov 24 to Dec 2, 2025, according to esim.holafly.com.

Unlimited vs fixed data: the per-day figure is the only fair comparison
A fixed-data eSIM sells you a set bundle for a set window. An unlimited data eSIM sells you days. To compare them, divide the total you will actually pay by the days you will actually travel. For unlimited plans that is simple: the price is final. For fixed-data plans you have to add every top-up you buy when the bundle runs out.
Example: a 10-day unlimited plan for the United States from VoaSim costs USD 29.90, or USD 2.99 per day, and that is the whole bill. Maps, ride-hailing apps, video calls and photo backups do not change it. With a fixed-data bundle, the same trip has an unknown final cost until you land home.

VoaSim per-day cost by destination, collected Nov 1, 2026
The table below lists VoaSim's published prices and per-day cost for seven destinations. Longer plans lower the daily figure: the United States drops from USD 3.18 per day on 5 days to USD 1.86 on 30 days, and Thailand reaches USD 1.43 per day on the 30-day plan. Europe's 15-day plan, covering 39 countries including Switzerland, the UK and Turkey, comes to USD 2.86 per day.
| Destination | 5 days | 10 days | 15 days | 30 days | per day (30 days) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| United States | USD 15.90 | USD 29.90 | USD 40.90 | USD 55.90 | USD 1.86 |

Brazil is the outlier at the top of the range, from USD 4.78 per day on 5 days to USD 3.93 on 30 days. If you are comparing a holiday markdown elsewhere, use these per-day figures as your baseline: any fixed-data offer has to beat them after top-ups, not before.
Why a Black Friday markdown on a small bundle can cost more than unlimited
Holiday campaigns tend to apply a percentage to whatever is in the cart. On a small fixed-data bundle, that saving is small in dollar terms, and it usually applies only to the first purchase. Three things then erode it:
- Top-ups are often full price. Many campaigns cover the initial order only, so the second and third refills you buy abroad are not marked down.
- Usage is hard to predict. Navigation in Tokyo, a hotel booking in Mexico City or a video call home from London can drain a small bundle faster than planned.
- New-user offers are one-time. Airalo's 2025 campaign offered 15% to new users with a maximum saving per purchase (airalo.com campaign page), so returning travelers did not qualify.
The practical test: estimate how many bundles you would really need, add them up, then divide by trip days. If that per-day figure is higher than the unlimited price in the table above, the markdown is not a saving.
How 2025 holiday eSIM offers were structured
Last year's campaigns give a useful preview of what to expect around Friday, Nov 27, 2026. Reported offers, cited as published:
- Holafly: 3 eSIMs for the price of 2, Nov 24 to Dec 2, 2025 (esim.holafly.com, Dec 4, 2025).
- Airalo: 15% for new users, with a maximum saving per purchase (airalo.com campaign page).
- Nomad: partner codes from 22% to 30% (AOL, Nov 24, 2025).
- Saily: 5% plus credit, valid until Dec 16, 2025 (saily.com).
- LATAM Friday: 10% on eSIMs, Nov 27 to 30, 2025 (Brasilturis, Nov 27, 2025).
Multi-pack formats like Holafly's suit groups traveling together. Percentage formats suit buyers who already know the exact plan they want. Either way, run the per-day check before you pay. Our Black Friday eSIM deals 2026 guide tracks this year's offers as they are announced.
Index check: 10-day unlimited prices before the holiday rush
The VoaSim Index, collected Nov 1, 2026, compares 10-day unlimited plans in USD (brands publishing in BRL converted at PTAX 5.4212). For the United States: VoaSim USD 29.90, Airalo USD 34.00, Holasim USD 34.90, Holafly USD 36.50 and America Chip USD 54.79. For Europe: VoaSim USD 30.90, Nomad USD 34.00, Holasim USD 34.90, Airalo USD 35.00, Holafly USD 37.50 and America Chip USD 58.55.
The ranking varies by destination. In Thailand, Nomad listed USD 17.00 against VoaSim at USD 26.90; in Mexico, Nomad listed USD 30.00 and VoaSim USD 30.90. Use the baseline as a reference when a Black Friday banner appears: if a marked-down plan is still above another brand's regular unlimited price, the banner is not the full story. When a fixed-data plan still makes sense
Unlimited is not automatically the right call. A fixed-data bundle can be reasonable if:
- Your trip is a short layover, such as a single day connecting through a hub airport.
- You will be on hotel or office Wi-Fi almost all the time and only need messaging on the move.
- You are a returning traveler who knows your exact usage from past trips.
For a 5-day city break, though, the gap is narrow: VoaSim's 5-day Japan plan is USD 14.90 and the 5-day United States plan is USD 15.90, and you never have to watch a counter. For trips of 7 days or more, the per-day figure falls and unpredictable usage becomes the bigger risk.
Buy on Black Friday, travel in 2027: how activation timing works
Because VoaSim days count from the first connection at your destination, installing at home costs nothing. You can buy around Nov 27, 2026, install the QR code in about 2 minutes, and start the clock only when you land. That suits 2027 trips such as Carnaval (Feb 6 to 9, 2027), Easter (Mar 28, 2027) or the FIFA Women's World Cup in Brazil (Jun 24 to Jul 25, 2027).
VoaSim keeps its published price, so the figures in the table above are what you pay whether you order on Nov 1 or on Cyber Monday, Nov 30, 2026. Payment is by card in your local currency via Stripe, support is human and available 24/7 on WhatsApp in English, Spanish and Portuguese, and you get a full refund if the eSIM does not connect and support cannot fix it.
