The best eSIM for China
The number one reason to bring an eSIM to China: it works in roaming and traffic routes outside the firewall — WhatsApp, Google Maps and Gmail work WITHOUT a VPN.
What decides the choice in China
- With a local Chinese SIM you are inside the firewall: no VPN means no Google and no WhatsApp.
- Chinese public Wi-Fi requires a local number to verify: a newly arrived traveler often cannot even use it.
- Coverage on the Chinese networks with massive 4G/5G in every city.
Real coverage
Important: with a travel eSIM you access WhatsApp, Instagram and Google normally, no VPN needed, because the traffic routes outside China.
Main cities: Beijing, Shanghai, Xi’an, Guangzhou. Full detail at eSIM for China.
What to check with any provider
- That China is explicitly on the plan's country list.
- The data policy: truly unlimited, or "unlimited" with fair use?
- Clarity on whether hotspot is covered, a refund guarantee if it never connects, and an invoice with your purchase.
VoaSim checks all three: unlimited with no throttling, a straight answer on hotspot (ask before buying), invoice on every purchase and the 24 h eSIM Rescue tool.
